GREEN SUPERCOMPUTING

ZIASTRA

Introducing Ziastra

Revolutionary green supercomputing

Ziastra by Open Origin is a groundbreaking supercomputing platform empowering transformative research and innovation for massive AI and scientific workloads. As the first Supercomputer-as-a-Service (SCaas) offering, Ziastra provides organizations with access to unprecedented computing power in a carbon-free, flexible framework. This enables teams to tackle complex challenges and accelerate discoveries, driving advancements in multiple fields while ensuring environmental responsibility.

What is a Supercomputer?

A supercomputer consists of many individual computing nodes, working in synchronicity under the control of a single operating system, sharing many of the system’s resources such as memory and storage.

It is scaled up, not scaled out, designed for the largest-scale research, science, and AI projects, tasks that require immense processing power, such as scientific simulations, weather forecasting, molecular modeling, and large-scale data analysis.

How is that Different from a Hyperscaler?

Hyperscalers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, provide large-scale cloud computing and storage capacity, often with thousands of independent servers for businesses and individuals globally. Hyperscaler nodes usually don’t communicate with each other, so programmers must take the responsibility of coordinating activity across multiple nodes, whereas with a supercomputer, the operating system manages this. This can lead to hyperscalers having significantly higher complexity, costs, and chance of programmatic errors, compared with Ziastra.

What is Ziastra ?

Providing a scalable Supercomputing-as-a-Service (SCaaS) platform, for the first time Ziastra makes national lab-scale computing accessible via a secure cloud. With a fully managed infrastructure, Ziastra boosts productivity and reduces costs, freeing up your computer scientists to focus on their projects instead of maintaining the computer systems. Ziastra’s unique offerings include:

  • Hardware and operating system maintenance and optimization
  • Application integration and optimization
  • Dedicated air-gapped cybersecurity environment
  • Dedicated physical network link to customer data center
  • Available high-speed storage on customer premises at no additional cost
  • The latest high-performance GPUs and accelerators

In summary, while both Ziastra and hyperscalers provide powerful computing resources, Ziastra focuses on delivering specialized, high-performance solutions for specific scientific and AI applications, whereas hyperscalers offer broad, scalable infrastructure for a wide variety of computing needs.

THE PROBLEm

AI requires a paradigm shift to overcome equipment and supply constraints

Massive Compute Demand Outpacing Supply: The rising demand for AI, scientific research and accelerated computing far outpaces supply, creating an urgent need for supercomputing.

Energy Constraints: Limited energy availability is a critical constraint on AI market growth due to both existing local power capacity and long supply chain lead time to commission new grid connections and generation sources. Increasing the usage of fossil-based energy sources to address the bottleneck may cause shortages and limit access to critical resources for local communities. This energy shortfall further contributes to compute capacity limitations as new datacenter projects struggle to find power.

Supply Chain Constraints Power

1. Distribution Problem:
AI systems require significant power and transmission resources such as transformers that are in short supply.
2. Scalability and Cost: Expensive hardware and high operational costs limit accessibility and growth potential.
3. Data Storage and Management: Handling massive data volumes while ensuring quality, privacy, and compliance is complex and costly.
4. Network Latency and Bandwidth: Real-time applications demand low latency and high bandwidth, especially at the edge, complicating deployment.
5. Security and Reliability: AI systems are vulnerable to cyber threats and adversarial attacks, requiring robust security and reliable uptime.
6. Fragmented Supply Chain: Diverse frameworks and hardware create compatibility issues and risk vendor lock-in. 7. Accessibility: Massive cost and timelines are entry barriers limiting access for smaller organizations.

Personnel Constraints: The demand for skilled AI professionals far exceeds supply, making it challenging to find talent with expertise in machine learning, data engineering, and AI infrastructure management. This talent gap slows development, raises labor costs, and restricts the scalability of AI initiatives.
